Especially for Teens
I find that so many of the teens I talk to love their moms so much but often don't show it, or tell them how much they appreciate all of the wonderful things they do. Plus let's face it...even though she does all those wonderful things, she probably does lots of things that aren't so wonderful too - like when she won't let you have marathon sleepovers or the keys to the car. She would love to hear how much you love & appreciate her! For those times when you just can't find the right words, try writing her a letter and slip it in her purse where she will be surprised to find it. Here is an idea for a great letter to your mom: Dear Mom, Sometimes its hard to tell you how I really feel. I know I get wrapped up in school and doing things with my friends, but I want you to know how much I love you and how much the little things matter to me. Like the times you ...stayed up with me until 3 am when I wasn't feeling well. ...let me cry my eyes out after the break-up and didn't give me a lecture. ...you took me shopping for just the right cool clothes. ...you gave me a pep talk about my bad grade in chemistry. ...yell at me when I got a bad report card because you know when I'm doing my best or just trying to skate by. ...waited for hours in the car while I'm finishing up practice. ...make pancakes for me and always know what I need. ...told me I was a star, even though I didn't feel that way myself. ...stayed up late worrying about me. ...believed in me when I had given up on myself. I could make this list a hundred lines long. I just want you to know how much I love you and appreciate you. I'm sorry that I forget it say it alot. Even though I often seem overly involved in my own world, I can't imagine life without you. I know I wouldn't be who I am without such an amazing mom! -Carrie Silver-Stock Carrie Silver-Stock, MSW, LCSW is the author of The Powder Box Secrets: Seven Tips to Help Teen Girls Achieve Succes and founder of www.girlswithdreams.com.
