My mom is working hard to make sure my senior year is all it should be - and make sure we can afford it all. She works hard taking care of Dad and me, giving up her dreams. Someday I hope I can help hers come true.

I am nominating my mom because the holidays are here, and now that I have my own family, and see just how much planning, work, money, and love it takes to make the holidays so special I appreciate her more than she can know! In addition to all the things moms do like bake cookies, take us out to see Christmas lights, and teach us all the real meaning of Christmas, my mom always went out of her way to make sure that each of her 5 kids got gifts from Santa that made our hearts sing. I remember one year in particular I wanted a collie...just like Lassie. Somehow I found a contest in the Sunday Parade Magazine in the newspaper - they were giving away one of Lassies' pups, all you had to do was send them your name, address, and phone number on a 3'x5' card. Well, I knew I was going to win, and so every day I prayed and thanked God for letting me have my own Lassie puppy. Of course, when the contest was over just a month or so before Christmas - and no one had called to congratulate me - I realized I was NOT a winner. I was totally heartbroken and my mom was heartbroken for me too.

So I am nominating my mom today, because somehow Santa brought me a collie puppy for Christmas that year, and I always knew my mom had something to do with it.

It has taken 30 years for me to write a nomination for my mom. Twenty eight years after my mom held on tight to my hand and carried me on her side through the decision to leave Vietnam during wartime. Through all the tough decisions and brave actions, she taught me how to work hard when she worked to get off of welfare rather than settling for handouts, to be humble when she held her head high while collecting cardboard in dark allies and trash cans late at night to sell to recycling centers to get a few extra dollars and how to not be afraid to raise your voice when someone doesn't understand what you are saying-especially when you are speaking Chinese and they are speaking English. The most important reason for this nomination is that my mom has given me the gift to teach my daughter all that she has taught me.

I am writing to nominate my sister Katie. She is definitely a mom that I think deserves a halo. Katie had her first child Alex while living in Kadina, Japan. Her husband Craig is in the airforce and they moved there shortly before our mother died of cancer. So not only was Katie alone, she had no mom to even talk her through her pregnancy. Katie also has another son Logan. He is a wild child, sweet and lovable, but definitely a handful. A few years ago Alex was diagnosed with Autism. Katie runs the house, takes care of things when her husband is deployed for training, is an advocate for her son, while making sure everything is normal for her other son Logan. She does this by herself, without family, and without our mom. Now that I am pregnant, she makes sure to call me and check in, and will be coming to New York for my delivery. Plus she works full time! If anyone deserves a halo, it is definitely her.

I do feel silly nominating myself--very silly, but I am going to do it anyway. The thought of actually winning a little reward and recognition for my motherly efforts is very motivating and gives me something to look forward to. :) I am a stay-at-home mom of 4 children ages 2-10 with a 5th on the way this August. I am not a supermom, my house isn't all that clean or organized and I am not a good cook. Every day, it seems that I have some sort of spastic breakdown with my children, but I try so hard to do my best and improve. I guess the reason why I think I sould be nominated is because I DO succeed in teaching my children the things I believe truly matter in life: love of God and family, empathy, service to others, hard work, forgiveness, gratitude, and gaining knowledge. As an example of teaching them to serve others, I co-founded a non-profit organization for Bulgarian orphans called "One Heart Bulgaria." I mostly run the organization from home while the kids are napping, at school, or late at night so that my time with them is un-compromised. My children are quite involved in collecting supplies, drawing pictures for the orphans, and fundraising in general. Their involvement teaches them to be grateful for their blessings and helps them recognize just how abundant their lives are. I am also teaching my two youngest daughters some Bulgarian in hopes that they will be able to volunteer in the orphanages themselves when they are old enough. I am so glad I can be my children's mother. I have seen hundreds of Bulgarian orphans who have no loving mother and so I try to be a mother-of-sorts to them as well.

My wife juggles a full-time job as an under appreciated NYC High School teacher in one of the worst High Schools in the Bronx while going to grad school for her Masters and raising a beautiful, incredibly cute 11 month old girl, while taking care of me, her loving and supportive husband. Did I mention she also is a free lance web designer and trying to start her own medical insurance supplement business. Somehow she is able to seamlessly go about her hectic days without the assistance of nicotine, valium, or alcohol. She thrives simply on the love of her family and coffee. Kristina deserves this nomination without a second thought.

I am one of three...I am 26 years old and my mom is the center of my world. She is my mom when I need her to be (sick,cook,my wedding), my bestfriend when I need somebody to talk to, and my role model when I loose focus on what's important .I am all grown up and their is not a day that goes by that I appreciate everything she has done for me and my brothers as we were growing up. I am getting married and my oldest brother is making her a grandmother is funny how you realized how lucky we are to have her be a part of this new beginnings in our lives and how much of her wisdom and knowledge we carry with us .Mother's day should be celebrated each day of our lives. I can only be blessed when my turn come to be a replica of my mother in my kids eyes.

I am nominating my sister because she is the most patient person that I know. She is a mother of three (10,6 and 2 months) and seems to never lose her temper and go crazy, If she does, you would never know it. She never complains and always put the kids 1st. She hardly has time for herself to do the "girly things" but she never seems to mind. I wish she would have one day to just be by herself and just get pampered, just like she does her family. Her main priority in life is to be a mom and in my eyes she is an awesome mom too. I have always looked up to her in many ways but now being a new mom myself I look up to her the most by the way she raises her children.

When I was growing up she had to raise other then myself but 4 other brothers and sisters by herself. I was 5 when this happen and now she lives here in NV and she still does whatever she needs to for her kids. She married a very good man who not only try's to take care of her and does a great job but also took care of us when he didn't have to. My mother is my hero and always will be.

I can’t think of a more magnificent mom than Diane Pearl! She is the mother of 3 children. Two of which live with a rare, life threatening blood disorder called Fanconi Anemia. She has been through bone marrow transplants with both of her children. That in and of itself makes her deserving but there is so much more. The Dr. visits, the medications, the days of feeling lousy, and the horrible itchy feeling at the back of your neck that it could all end one day. But wait, there is still more. She and her family have organized several bone marrow drives and have been responsible for many people being added to the national registry! It still goes one! She keeps a website where she pours her heart and soul out in a journal. She inspires many moms to be better moms. I don’t know Diane personally but she helps me every day! Whenever I get frustrated and overwhelmed with my 2 and 3 year old (10 months apart) a little voice tells me to “Remember Diane” and I want to hug my kids! She definitely helps keep all the day-to-day stresses of motherhood in perspective. She writes with such humor and an amazingly positive attitude! She helps me to remember to keep myself centered on Faith, Family and Friends! Diane Pearl truly is a magnificent mom, wife, woman and Christian!

I am nominating my wife because she does everything for our family. I am an over the road truck driver and she takes care of our son during the day and goes to work at night. She also does all the little things and she never gives herself credit for all that she does.

My mother has been my best friend for 33 years. Have you ever met anyone who gave things up for themselves so you could strive and take the lead. She wanted her daughter to always have more then she did in life from college, to jobs, to love to everything and she made sure she pushed us non stop to pursue everything in life to make those dreams come true. There isn't anything she wouldn't do for me and every work related event I have or throw she is always there on the sidelines being my number one fan and supporter.
I only wish I could give her something back!

Sounds cliche but she is the best mom on the face of the earth. The past year has been very trying for our family. My older brother was diagnosed for a second time with leukemia. For a mother to have to watch her son go through such pain and agony, yet remain the strong foundation a family needs in that situation is truly admirable. Not only did she spend endless nights at the hospital, but she also helped my sister-in-law during the day with their 2 young boys. As well as plan a wedding for my younger sister.
My mom has to be one of the most selfless people around. She has always been there for her 3 children, 2 grandchildren and her husband and never thinks about herself or asks what about me? I feel so very fortunate to have her as my mother and my friend.

My Mom is the greatest Mom on Earth and is most definitely going to Heaven for raising four children of her own and helping me with my two boys, Andrew, age 6 and Alex, 14 months old. When I gave birth to Andrew in 2000, my Mom who was working at the time took a full week of vacation and stayed at our house to help me take care of him, including getting up in the middle of the night for feedings, so I could recover from an emergency c-section. When I gave birth to my second son Alex in December of 2005 (another c-section), my Mom stepped right up to the plate to help again - cooking meals, spending the night and getting up at all hours to feed the baby, cleaning up around the house, whatever needed to be done she did, graciously and effortlessly.
My Husband and I both have very hectic work schedules and sometimes we both have to work late. My Mom will drive from Granite City where she lives to Edwardsville to pick up Andrew, to Collinsville to pick up Alex, and head back to Maryville where we live until we can get there to take over for the night. If I get in a bind and need her help, she drives 15 minutes to our house at a moment's notice, no questions asked. She even volunteers to watch the boys on a Friday or Saturday night so my Husband and I can get out of the house and enjoy a nice dinner out.
I am so very grateful for my Mom, who is also my friend, my confidante, my support, and the best Grandmother too!! I love her to pieces and don't know what I would do without her!!

I am nominating Julie. She is a mother of 2 children – 6 years old and 8 months old. I first met Julie here at work and we instantly hit it off. I became pregnant with twins and was put on bed rest 5 months prior to my due date. She called at least 3 times per week to check on me. Due to the bed rest, I didn’t have a baby shower. Julie managed to collect money from my work and they gave us a gift card to get everything we needed.  When my children were born, my daughter was 2 pounds 4 ounces and my son was 1 pound 13 ounces. Since they were in the NICU for 9.5 weeks, Julie came up to the hospital to check on me and see if there was anything I needed. Being a new mother was overwhelming and Julie made sure to take care of me.

Julie understands what makes mom’s tick whether it’s showing pictures or talking about what they did this morning before you leave for work.

She has such spunk and charisma that I instantly knew that being a mother doesn’t mean you can’t go out and have fun. She truly balances her children, work and husband with such grace that it encourages me to do the same.

Without Julie, I truly would not be the mother I am today.
